The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed nine (9) flood risk mitigation projects in South Cotabato.
Based on DPWH South Cotabato 2nd DEO District Engineer Khalil L. Sultan’s report to Secretary Mark A. Villar, the flood control projects include channel excavations, revetment constructions, and river bank protection.
The anti-flood measure along Allah River, Banga River, and Marbel River now protect nearby residents in barangays Punong Grande, Rang-ay, and San Jose in Banga town; Barangay. Puti in Norala town; Barangay Dajay in Surallah town; and in Koranadal City.
The projects amounting P307.20 million and funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA) were accomplished earlier than their target completion dates.
To reduce vulnerability of communities near the river systems in South Cotabato, 12 flood control projects are also underway this 2020 in Koronadal City and in the municipalities of Banga, Sto. Niño, and Surallah.
