
The Department of Public Works and Highways has geared up paving the roads for the on-coming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit that will converge around 3,000 foreign and local dignitaries and economists all over the 21 participating member- countries.
In Region III, the 2nd Zambales DEO is now completing the repair and rehabilitation of a 930 linear meters portion of the Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo road which will be the main route going to Subic Free Port, one of the sites hosting the summit.
The Php17.8 Million project, which is now 40% completed was started in the latter part of June, 2014 and is expected to be finished by October.
On the other hand, another 180 linear meter stretch along GSO is likewise undergoing repair and rehabilitation using Php5.032 million fund.
This project is seen to be finished by the 3rd week of August 2014, it having posted a 45 % completion rate as of August 4.
“We are doing the best we can to have everything geared up months before the APEC summit here in Central Luzon. This will somehow create an enormous impact on the investors and foreign business people if they see that our road works are in great shape,” said 2nd Zambales DE Hercules Manglicmot.
The APEC summit will kick off on December of this year and will run until November, 2015.
It is a group of 21 member countries that meet regularly to support the sustainable growth and (economic) prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
Other countries participating in the APEC summit are as follows: Australia; Brunei; Canada; Indonesia; Japan; South Korea; Malaysia; New Zealand; Philippines; Singapore; Thailand; United States of America; Chinese Taipei; Hongkong; People’s Republic of China; Mexico; Papua New Guinea; Chile; Peru; Russia; and Vietnam.
Other hosts tasked by Malacañang are Metro Manila, Clark Pampanga, Tagaytay, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Boracay and Bacolod.
