The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the construction works of the Pontevedra Bypass Road Project in the municipality of Pontevedra, Capiz.

According to DPWH Region 6 OIC-Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel, the construction of the 2.3-kilometer, 4-lane bypass road project under multi-year implementation is now on its last phase.

“Once completed, the project will serve as a diversion road to reduce traffic congestion along the Pontevedra town proper and as an alternate connector between the towns of Panay and President Roxas,” said OIC-Director Oropel.

Traversing Barangay Ilaya to Barangay Malag-it, the new road is expected to ensure a more cost-efficient delivery of goods and services and facilitate a more convenient access to various towns in the province as well as the neighboring provinces of Iloilo and Aklan.

An initial amount of P45 million was released in 2020 to jumpstart construction and P50 million was allocated consecutively in 2021, 2022, and 2023 to complete the whole stretch of the road.

With a total fund of P195 million, the project involves construction of reinforced concrete box culvert, road shoulders, and slope protection structures with provision of lane markings, metal guard rails, reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, and street lights as safety features.

Phase 4 of the Pontevedra Bypass Road Project is undertaken by DPWH Capiz 1st District Engineering Office.
