The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a road lighting project for the purpose of improving safety of night time motorists traversing a portion of Pancian-Adams Road in the town of Adams, Ilocos Norte.

DPWH Regional Office Director Ronnel M. Tan said that the completed road improvement project was implemented by the DPWH Ilocos Norte 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) along a 7.34-kilometer portion of Pancian-Adams Road in Barangay Adams.

The project involved the installation of a total of 202 solar LED street lights alternately on the mountainside road, enhancing visibility and safety of all road users.

“The road lighting increases visibility and helps prevent accidents along winding hillside roads that have steep grades and blind curves,” said Director Tan, citing a report from DPWH Ilocos Norte 1st District Engineer Glenn C. Miguel.

“In a tropical country like the Philippines that receive ample sunlight year-round, the use of solar outdoor luminaires is also the more sustainable and cost-effective solution. Solar street lights are water resistant, require almost no maintenance, and is not dependent on the national grid,” added Director Tan.

The lighting project along Pancian-Adams Road was implemented by the DPWH Ilocos Norte 1st DEO in the amount of P49 million, through the inititiative of Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative and Senior Deputy Majority Speaker Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos, sourced from the 2023 General Appropriations Act.
