The completion of a tourism road project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Tourism (DOT) has provided easy access to three (3) scenic waterfalls in Calbayog City, Samar.

DPWH-Samar First District Engineer Alvin A. Ignacio said that a P50-million project involving the paving of 1,200-linear meter access road has led to increase in tourist arrival at Larik Falls, Bangon Falls and Tarangban Falls.

“The road improvement at Barangay Tinaplacan, Tinambacan District has resulted to the growing in number of visitors of the three (3) majestic falls. This has been confirmed by the Calbayog City Tourism and Information Office which cited an increase of 694.6% from 2,075 tourists in 2015 to 14,413 in 2016,” said District Engineer Ignacio.

DPWH-Samar First District Engineering Office has also constructed a 768.20 linear meters reinforced concrete lined canal that is intended to prevent clogging and water ponding in the area which may eventually cause early deterioration of the newly-paved road.

This year, DPWH is set to implement a P100 million slope protection project along the newly improved access road.
