The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) built a total of 243 additional school buildings that now serve thousands of students in Cagayan Valley Region this school year.

DPWH Region 02 Director Melanio C. Briosos reported the completion of school building projects now used by Academic, Elementary, Junior and Senior High School students in the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.

“In response to the growing population of students in Cagayan Valley Region, DPWH has completed the construction of 243 school building projects providing additional 1,164 classrooms for public schools region-wide.” Briosos stated.

School building projects were sourced out of the Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF) from the 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA) intended to address classroom shortage and assist the implementation of Department of Education’s K to 12 Program.

“The completion of these projects is in fulfilment of the commitment of the national leadership to improve the educational facilities for the children in the impoverished barangay while bolstering the K to 12 Program of the government in the region,” said Director Briosos.
