The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) celebrates on Friday, June 23, 2017 its 119th Founding Anniversary with theme “Kapayapaan ay Bigyan Daan, Upang Kaunlaran ay Makamtan”.

Highlight of this year’s anniversary is the unveiling of the new DPWH Strategy Map which will serve as the guiding principle to achieve goals of the Department in the next five (5) years.

According to Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar, the new DPWH Strategy Map focuses not just on the output but of the outcome of its policies, programs, and projects.
“Our goal does not end with completed roads and bridges. We want to make sure that people benefit from our infrastructure projects which means we build roads, bridges, and other infrastructure facilities that reduce travel time, improve road quality and safety, and protect lives and properties from natural disasters, said Secretary Villar.

He also reminded DPWH officials and employees about the “Build, Build, Build” Infrastructure Program of the current administration, emphasizing the commitment of the Department to meet the demand in building more vital infrastructure projects in the next five years to further facilitate the country’s economic growth.

“Let us bring honor and glory to the DPWH. And let us make sure we succeed to this challenge of the ‘Golden Age of Infrastructure’,” said Secretary Villar.

The Department of Public Works and Highways traces its roots to the Department of War and Public Works which was established 12 days after the declaration of Philippines’ Independence from Spanish colonization in June 12, 1898.

It is one (1) of the first four (4) Departments of the Philippine Revolutionary Government created by virtue of then President Emilio Aguinaldo’s Organic Decree in June 23, 1898.
