DPWH RO 8 Supports Asean Launching in Eastern Visayas

The Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office VIII supports the launching of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Information Kiosk in Eastern Visayas held in April 7, 2017 at the Robinsons Place Tacloban Activity Area, Marasbaras, Tacloban City.

The said launching activity is led by the Officials of the Philippine Information Agency. It was actively participated by Regional Directors and or Focal Officials from the different National Government Agencies (NGAs): Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE); Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD); Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA); Department of Science and Technology (DOST); Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); Department of Agriculture (DA); and National Economic Development Authority (NEDA). All NGAs contributed their respective offices’ Information Education Communication (IEC) materials for the public.

Over 300 participants composed of youth, farmer’s organizations, civil society groups, information officers of national government offices, local government units and local media representatives were present to witness the launching activity.

Said multi-sectoral activity aims to strengthen public’s awareness on the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN where the Philippines sits as 2017 chairman.

PIA Director General Harold Clavite disclosed that establishment of Information Kiosk is one way to intensify promotion of awareness, understanding and appreciation of the ASEAN community.

DPWH RO8 Regional Public Information Officer (RPIO) Antonieta R. Lim intimated that this information materials will be easily read by the public to increase awareness on the various programs and projects of DPWH.

These Information Kiosks are located at DZR Airport, Robinsons Mall in Tacloban City, and in the lobby of Ormoc City Hall.

To date, the whole economy of the ASEAN member states rank 7th in the world and it is projected to rank 4th by year 2050.

ASEAN community was established with the primary objective of improving the lives of its citizens,‖ Clavite said.
