The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allocated a total of P49 million to construct 70 public toilets along national and nautical highways in Eastern Visayas.
This was disclosed by DPWH Region 08 Director Edgar B. Tabacon who said the project came after an inspection earlier this year that key identify infrastructure development program leading to seaports.
According to Director Tabacon, restrooms will be constructed in strategic areas like markets, eating establishments, community centers, and tourism destinations every 50 kilometers along national highway.
Each public toilet will have 30-square meter area with waterworks, rain water collection system, and solar lighting fixtures.
“These projects will not just provide comfort during travel but also generate employment opportunities for the local people,” said Director Tabacon.
Director Tabacon said prompt coordination will also be made with local government units concerned to ensure proper and regular maintenance of restrooms once completed.
The facilities will be funded under the Engineering and Administrative Overhead (EAO) of the Department.
