The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed gabion retaining walls to prevent flooding in low-lying areas of Nueva Vizcaya.

DPWH Region 2 Director Melanio C. Briosos said P102 was spent to build the walls located in the barangays of Banganan and Calitlitan in the municipality of Aritao; Barangay Lamo in the municipality of Dupax del Norte; and in Barangay Gabut in the municipality of Dupax del Sur.

According Director Briosos, mentioned barangays are located in low-lying areas and are vulnerable to flooding during rainy season.

“This flood-control project was fast-tracked and was completed ahead of schedule in time for rainy season,” said Director Briosos.

“The walls will be able to plug water inflow, thus prevent damage to the lives and properties of the residents of Nueva Vizcaya’s low-lying barangays,” added Director Briosos.
