Works are in progress for the Department of Public Works and Highways' construction of an alternative road with flood control facilities and health and fitness component in Legazpi City, Albay.

In his inspection, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar checked the progress of activities for the construction of 1.67 kilometer coastal road with joggers' lane and seawall including drainage facilities at Barangay Baybay, Legazpi City.

The DPWH Secretary was joined by Undersecretary Dimas O. Soguilon, Assistant Secretary Eugenio R. Pipo, DPWH-Region 5 Director Danilo E. Versola, DPWH-Region 5 Construction Division OIC Chief Cornelio Relativo and other DPWH Regional Directors who were in Bicol Region for the DPWH Unified Regional Directors meeting.

Villar expressed confidence that the project would not only help decongest traffic in Legazpi City but will also effectively protect people from the coastal hazards and lessen flooding occurrence upon its completion in the first quarter of 2018.

The P330 Million project is part of the Legazpi City Urban Drainage Improvement Project which is a priority project of DPWH considering the vulnerability to flooding of Legazpi City during heavy rains, typhoons and high tide with its location near Albay Gulf and several other watercourses.

Also, the new road would encourage fitness and wellness activities for local Bicol residents and tourists as site for sporting events like triathlon, marathons, cycling, fun runs and many more.
