Among the 0+10 Point Economic Agenda of the present administration is to promote rural and value chain development toward increasing agricultural and rural enterprise productivity and rural tourism. This thrust calls for a more attention due to the southern part of Cebu—the food basket of the province and at the same time its newest tourist destination.
While the terrain of Southern Cebu is more of mountainous with narrow beach fronts, the area has potentials for agro-tourism industry. In Dalaguete, a wide valley of vegetable field serves as the source of fresh vegetables of Cebu. Its water falls and hidden lakes including hot springs are new tourism discoveries. In Oslob, appearance of whale sharks brought fame and economic abundance to the municipality. A big number of tourists—foreign and local frequently troop the beaches of Oslob to watch and to swim with “Butanding”.
As a support to these natural attractions, the National Government through DPWH improves the road network in the south. From the Poblacion of Ginatilan, a P100 Million tourism road was constructed going to Pedro Calungsod Shrine. Also, DPWH is improving the Brgy. Malbago-Kalangkang-Sulsogon Road leading to Kawasan Falls in Badian, another famous tourism destination of the south. From Brgy. Lamac a road is also being widened going to resorts and caves. Dalaguete-Mantalongon-Badian Road got an allocation of P340 Million that will enhance the road going to the food basket of Cebu. With these road improvements, locals will be assured of the smooth travels of bringing their products to the market and encourage more tourists to visit and enjoy the place—a stable source of income for the residents and the needed revenue for the services they need.
