The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently implementing a P107.7 million bridge project crossing Cagayan River that is seen to provide ease in traveling to and from the southern part of Cagayan Province.

DPWH Region 2 Director Melanio C. Briosos said works have begun in July for Aquib-Dugayong Bridge which will span 386.5-lineal meters starting from Barangay Aquib to Dugayong in Piat, Cagayan.

“The project which is being built with 19 spans, 130-lineal meter approach on both ends, is now 16 percent completed and is aimed to be opened to motorists before the end of 2018,” said Director Briosos.

Once completed, Director Briosos said the all-weather bridge will serve as a link of Piat town proper to barangays in the municipalities of Rizal, Sto. Niño and Tuao, facilitating a shorter travel time for pilgrims and local and foreign tourists visiting Basilica of Our Lady of Piat.

This mega bridge will particularly also help increase farm ventures for the productivity and profitability of farmers in the area.
