The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking its road improvement, drainage systems and pathways project near Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRMMC), Manila.

In a report, DPWH National Capital Region Director Melvin B. Navarro said that North Manila District Engineering Office (NMDEO) will soon complete the P14.8 million road project with a major flood control system along Severino Reyes Street, Lico Extension in Tondo, Manila that will help alleviate flooding around the vicinity of the hospital.

Roads near JRMMC are prone to flooding and normally become impassable for motorists and commuters during rainy season due to its low elevation. The completion of a better drainage system and elevated road and pathways will reduce the occurrence of flooding in the area.

“This will bring relief to patients and hospital staff who brace the flood water and will also prevent spread of diseases such as dengue and leptospirosis caused by stagnant flood water,” said Director Navarro.

Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRMMC) located at Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila is a Department of Health-managed public hospital that caters to indigent patients in the country.
