The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to implement next year the San Juan-Naungan Diversion Road Project that will serve as a shorter alternative to Merida-Ormoc Road in Ormoc City.

DPWH recently met with affected property owners in Barangay San Juan to discuss the government road project that will start in their barangay, traversing Barangay Lao up to Barangay Naungan.

“With the help of Barangay San Juan officials, we held a discussion with the locals and requested their cooperation to accurately mark the specific land areas directly affected by the road construction,” said District Engineer Lino Francisco C. Gonzales of DPWH Leyte Fourth District Engineering Office.

According to Engr. Gonzales, inputs from the affected homeowners will be considered to ensure smooth implementation of the project which starts next year. It has received an initial allocation of P300 million under General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2018.

San Juan-Naungan Diversion Road Project covers the construction of a new 6-lane road stretching four (4) kilometres. This road is seven (7) kilometers shorter than the conventional 11-kilometer Merida-Ormoc Road from Barangay San Juan to Naungan.

Once completed, it will benefit motorists using Merida-Ormoc Road going to Ormoc City, even those coming from Merida, Isabel, and Palompon, Leyte.
