
Seventeen (17) public schools in Cagayan Province have now newly-installed Rain Water Collection System (RWCS) that can be used for sanitation purposes.
DPWH Region 2 Director Melanio C. Briosos said that P3.2 million was spent to complete the RWCS which were installed in schools that do not have adequate access to water and sanitation facilities.
Director Briosos said Cagayan First District Engineering Office completed the construction of the 17 RWCS over a period of four (4) months.
Each RWCS system includes one unit reinforced concreted ground storage tank with a capacity of 4000 liters of water. The water collector can be used in addressing problems in diminishing freshwater supply due to over extraction of ground water.
Beneficiaries of the project include: Ziman Elementary School and Paddaya Elementary School in the town of Aparri; Bullala Fugu Elementary School in Camalaniugan; Laoc Elementary School, C. Dela Cruz Elementary School and Sta. Clara National High School in Gonzaga; San Mariano Elementary School and Magapit National High School in Lal-lo.
Water collection system are also installed at Don Mariano National High School, Guising Elementary School, Dummun Elementary School, Lapogan Elemetary School, Calaogan Dakkel Elementary School and Calaogan National High School – Capissayan Annex in the municipalty of Gattaran; Alcala West Central School in Alcala; and Marus Elementary School in Baggao town.
