Good news to motorists as the flyover constructed in one of Bacolod City's busiest areas has officially opened Tuesday, December 19, 2017.
The government’s traffic decongestion program in highly urbanized areas has achieved another milestone with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar together with Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg G. Gasataya and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia leading the ceremonial inauguration of the flyover constructed along Araneta Avenue across Magsaysay Avenue in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
Others present at the ceremonial opening of the 7.50 meter wide flyover with 280 lineal meters approaches include Economic Counsellor Laurent Estrade of Embassy of France in the Philippines; DPWH Region 6 OIC-Director Wenceslao M. Leaño Jr.; Project Directors of the DPWH Unified Project Management Offices namely Gil R. Villanueva, Patrick B. Gatan, and Sharif Madsmo H. Hasim; and District Engineers James S.J. Javellana, Haydee S. Alunan, Randolfo A. Melosantos, and Abraham C. Villareal of Negros Occidental.
Started in April 2017, the P32 Million worth flyover project is expected to eliminate delays especially for the through traffic movement at Araneta Avenue from downtown Bacolod City to Bago City on account of signalized intersection with multi direction traffic and result in savings on vehicle operating cost and travel time.
Villar said that the two (2) lanes flyover will practically eliminate congestion by providing continuous traffic flow along Araneta Avenue eliminating interruptions caused vehicles crossing Magsaysay Avenue.
This 195-lineal meters flyover utilizing the prefabricated modular steel technology of Matiere S.A.S. under the French Government assistance program will also help reduce carbon emissions that occur due to idling of vehicles at the junction during traffic.
As in-charge of the DPWH Unified Project Management Office operations who has witnessed the progress of the project implementation under the Bridges Management Cluster, Undersecretary Sadain commended Project Director Villanueva and his staff as well as the invaluable support of DPWH Bacolod City District Engineer Abraham Villareal and the City Government of Bacolod for the successful completion of this well-built flyover project in time for the holiday rush.
