
The Calbayog – Allen Route passing through Brgy. Cagnipa, Tinambacan District, Calbayog City, Samar suffered another rock fall brought about by the continuous heavy rains of tropical depression Agaton.
The rock fall happened January 3, 2018, around 2AM, rendering the whole road unpassable to all types of vehicles. One (1) SAMELCO light post and an uninhabited house made of light materials were not spared from the falling rocks. Fortunately, there was no reported casualty.
DPWH Samar 1st District Engineering Office Maintenance Point Person (MPP) Ronalie Pelotos and her team arrived at 3AM to begin clearing operations. Installation of warning signs and traffic advisories were done to redirect traffic to Calbayog – Catarman Road.
Approximately 582 cubic meters of rock was detached from the mountain slope, leaving behind loose rocks that may result to another road slope disaster.
Assistant District Engineer Denis Cagomoc arrived in the area at 9AM and reassured the residents of Brgy. Cagnipa that they will put into action the necessary precautions to prevent another disaster.
As of January 3, 2018, 5PM, the road became one lane passable to all types of vehicles while clearing operations in the area are still ongoing.
