A total of 18 flood control projects amounting to P506 million were successfully implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-NE2DEO) for the year 2017.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, OIC-District Engineer Ricardo M. Puno of DPWH-NE2DEO said flood mitigation structures such as creek and river control were strategically built in areas normally plagued by flooding in the Third Legislative District of Nueva Ecija. This comprises the cities of Cabanatuan and Palayan, and the municipalities of Bongabon, Gabaldon, General Mamerto Natividad, Laur, and Santa Rosa.

Completed flood control projects were built along Pampanga River and its major tributaries such as Coronel River in Gabaldon, Digmala River in Bongabon, Cabu and Minatula Creeks in Cabanatuan City, and Sapang Buho River in Palayan City.

Engr. Puno said among the highlight flood control projects this year are: the rehab of the 710-lineal meter section of Cabu River Flood Control in Barangay Cabu, Cabanatuan City; the 1,113-lineal meter rehab of Calabasa Flood Control in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija; and the 351-lineal meter rehab of Pampanga River Control in Barangay Sapang Buho, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

“These projects will protect hundreds of lives and properties in this area, and ensure momentum for economic growth will not be hampered by damages brought by flooding,” said Engr. Puno.
