The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the second phase of a bridge project that will benefit a small island barangay in the Municipality of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.
DPWH Region 9 Director Jorge U. Sebastian Jr. said about 5,000 residents of the island barangay of Kaliantana can soon easily access the mainland of Naga upon the completion of Kaliantana Bridge that will be under third phase of construction.
The project which is funded under Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Program involves the construction of a prestressed concrete girder bridge from Barangay Kaliantana to the mainland Barangay Baluno.
“Barangay Kaliantana is situated 440 meters away from the mainland and is accessible via small boats. With the completion of the bridge, its residents can easily and safely transport their local products to the mainland markets, facilitating economic development in the area,” said Director Sebastian.
DPWH Region 9 allocated P100 million for the first and second phase of the Kaliantana Bridge project covering 246 meters.
More or less 194 meters still need to be constructed for the project to realize and serve its purpose.
