The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the widening of Calbayog Diversion Road in Calbayog City, Samar that is now serving as a safer and faster alternative route to Daang Maharlika.
DPWH allocated P105 million in 2017 for the project that covers the widening of the 3-kilometer portion of diversion road, including provision of reinforced concrete canal and slope protection features.
According to DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon, concerned barangay officials have lauded the widening of the road.
“Motorists passing through the area have increased bringing along motorized tricycles which make travel of the local residents in Barangay Dagum safer and more convenient,” noted Director Tabacon.
Widening the road lanes especially in curve areas has reduced the risk of head-on crashes by giving drivers more room to get around it without crossing into the opposing lane.
Similarly, widening turn lanes can also reduce sideswipe crashes and can improve safety, especially for larger vehicles.
