
Building officials nationwide gathered on Thursday, February 15, 2018 for an Earthquake Risk Resiliency Forum organized by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Speakers of the forum held at DPWH Head Office in Port Area, Manila, include experts from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS); University of the Philippines (UP) National Engineering Center; Office of the President-Presidential Management Staff; Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP); Department of Finance (DOF); and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Aimed to intensify preparedness of LGUs for the “Big One”, the forum tackled issues concerning the Philippine Earthquake Model of PHIVOLCS; the Proposed Philippine Building Act repealing Presidential Decree No. 1096 of the UP National Engineering Center; and Lessons Learned from Turkey by the Office of the President-Presidential Management -Staff.
Moreover, the National Building Code Development Office (NBCDO) presented earthquake recording instrumentation for buildings; ASEP on Earthquake Damage Assessment; DOF on Disaster Risk Financing; and DILG on Retrofitting of Private Buildings. DPWH on the other hand discussed its Programs and Projects on Disaster Resiliency as well as the Philippine Green Building Code.
The Earthquake Risk Resiliency Forum is a fitting avenue for the building officials and concerned government agencies to discuss and collaborate for the welfare of the public in case the “Big One” does happen.
The forum will also enable the government sector to plan, design, and build earthquake resilient structures for the Filipino people.
