In the observance of Lenten Season, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reactivates its Lakbay Alalay Program to assist motorists as they travel back home and visit their departed loved ones.
Starting Wednesday, March 28, 2018, DPWH will station 20 Motorist Assistance Centers all over Cagayan Valley Region to last until April 2, 2018.
Through a memorandum issued to all implementing offices of the Department, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar directed field personnel to conduct inspection and ensure that all major routes are free from potholes, equipped with reflectorized pavement markings, and warning signage are installed within clear and safe distance of all on-going construction projects.
According to DPWH Region 2 Director Melanio C. Briosos, Lakbay Alalay teams will be available on a round-the-clock shift along major thoroughfares to help travelers, pedestrians, as well as domestic and foreign tourists this Lenten break.
Lakbay Alalay Teams are composed of DPWH Personnel and mechanics ready with equipment and service vehicles on stand-by at thoroughfares where influx of motorists is expected and shall coordinate with Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP), local government units (LGUs), and other concerned agencies for any necessary assistance they may provide.
Aside from deploying motorist assistance teams, DPWH will likewise facilitate the removal of any obstruction along national roads and bridges such as vendors and illegally parked vehicles to ensure safety of the motoring public.
