DPWH conducts Multi-Sector Governance Council 2018 1st Quarter Meeting

Thursday, April 5, 2018

Taking off from last year’s Silver Trailblazer finish and passing the Proficiency Stage Revalida in flying colors, the DPWH-PGS under the chairmanship of Undersecretary Maria Catalina E. Cabral, convened the Multi-Sector Governance Council (MSGC) for its 1st quarter meeting for 2018. New member partner from the academe (Dr. Bernardo Villegas of the University of Asia and the Pacific) was welcomed together with past members (Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines, National Competitiveness Council – Philippines, Confederation of Filipino Consulting Organizations Inc. and the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers).

The DPWH-PGS committee was also there to fully support this endeavor, with Assistant Secretary Gilberto S. Reyes and Assistant Secretary B. Elizabeth E. Yap at the helm. Some of the PGS Technical Working Group (TWG) rounded up the plenary.

Facilitated by the Corporate Planning and Management Division (CPMD), as DPWH’s Office of Strategy Management (OSM), and the Stakeholders Relations Service, the MSGC members were given the 2017 updates.

With the results of the DreamPH 2017 fair and the panel recommendation that came with the Proficiency Stage conferment, they were also given the full view of what the Department has to improve as it will now vie for the 4th stage of the PGS pathway – Institutionalization. In this stage, the Department should maximize the expertise of the MSGC, forming committees and initiating projects that utilize the technical know-how of the council members.

The short but very insightful meeting was adjourned with a lot of ideas brewing for the next MSGC fellowship in July of 2018. Other MSGC members are the National Center for Transportation Studies, Philippine Constructors Association Inc., National Economic Development Agency – Infrastructure Group and the Philippine Institute for Developmental Studies.

The MSGC acts as an advisory board seen to be external partners and champions of the strategy, who advocate for the reform of the organization, and pursue MSGC-level projects that would contribute to the realization of the organization’s goals.
