Motorists traveling to the southernmost part of Oriental Mindoro are now reaping the hundredfold benefits of a new permanent bridge built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

President Rodrigo R. Duterte and DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar recently led the formal opening of Lisap Bridge along Calapan South Road in Barangay Hagan in the town of Bongabong and considered to be one (1) of the longest bridge in the province of Oriental Mindoro with a length of 365 lineal meters and approaches of 175 lineal meters.

Lisap Bridge was constructed on a higher elevation and with wider lanes designed for a safer and reliable bridge transport replaces the old Bailey bridge.

DPWH Secretary Villar said the newly-built bridge with an allocation of P324 million now serves as a primary route from the municipality of Bongabong to Roxas, bypassing the lengthy circumferential road.

“With this new Lisap Bridge, motorists won’t have to endure passing through a long circumferential road nor riding small boats or rafts to cross the dangerous Bongabong River just to reach this innermost part of Bongabong town,” said Secretary Villar.

In long term, the new Lisap Bridge is expected to improve mobility, gradually increasing economic activities brought about by the flourishing tourism and agriculture in the area.
