In anticipation of the influx of new students for the academic year 2018-2019, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing five (5) new school building facilities in Ormoc City, Leyte province.

DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said that the DPWH in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) is constructing the school buildings through the use of the Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF) amounting to P10-million.

Single-storey buildings with two (2) classrooms that could accommodate 40-50 students each are almost completed in the schools of: St. Filomena National High School, Matlang National High School, and Matlang Elementary School.

Workshop buildings that could fit up to a hundred students each are also under final stage of construction in St. Filomena National High School and Matlang National High School to serve as laboratory or venue for seminars.

“Catering to 50 students in each classroom, these school buildings would benefit up to 300 students each school year. This will motivate our local youth to come to school regularly and enhance their learning capacity,” Director Tabacon said.

Currently undergoing finishing touches, punchlisting, and housekeeping activities, the 5 school buildings are expected to be utilized in time for the opening of the school year in June.
