DPWH Road Repair Begins Maundy Thursday

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Road works along EDSA will start tomorrow, Maundy Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 2 a.m.

Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio L. Singson said that the road reblocking project along EDSA during Holy Week specifically between Madison Street and Ortigas Avenue (northbound) and between Connecticut and Boni Avenue (southbound) will be closely supervised by DPWH Metro Manila 1st District Engineering Office.

“We have already directed the project contractor B. Bernardo Construction to start the road works as scheduled and ensure the on-time deployment of sufficient manpower and equipment resources to avoid delay in the completion and facilitate opening of affected lanes by 2 p.m. of Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016”, said Secretary Singson.

In Quezon City, the DPWH Quezon City Second District Engineering Office will implement the project for installation of geolift at 1 to 2 inches depressed 1st lane concrete pavement along EDSA north bound infront of Camp Aguinaldo Gate 3.

Under contract with Rebtrade International Corporation, the setting up of geolift high density polyurethane foam will also start on Maundy Thursday, March 24 at 2 a.m and will be completed on Good Friday, March 25.

The process of geolift is quicker than other repair methods because the materials in form of chemical grout will displace water and stabilize base to its load bearing capacity and restore the concrete elevation to its original form and profile, allowing the repair to be finished in hours compared to days that the alternative methods require.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has also gave clearance to DPWH Quezon City First Engineering District and its contractor I.M. Construction Corporation to undertake reblocking at 1st lane of Qurino Highway- Lagro infront of Asia United Bank during the Holy Week break from 2 am Maundy Thursday to 2 pm Easter Sunday.
