Paving Works for Gandara-Matuguinao Road in Samar now on final phase

Thursday, May 10, 2018

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will soon commence work for the third and final phase of a road project that will connect the municipalities of Gandara and Matuguinao in Samar Province.

According to DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon, the last groundbreaking rites for the contract covering the paving of a total of 3.5-kilometers of road, 80-meter slope protection works, and a 1.5-kilometer concrete lined canal is scheduled within this second quarter of 2018.

Upon completion of the last phase, Director Tabacon said the P270 million Gandara-Matuguinao Road will be a 13.5-kilometer 2-lane paved road.

A total of 10-kilometers of the road was completed in the previous years.

“With a paved Gandara-Matuguinao Road, rice farmers will be able to transport their agricultural products to major markets faster and easier. This road is significant since both Gandara and Matuguinao towns are deemed as rice-producing municipalities in the province of Samar,” noted Director Tabacon.

The Gandara-Matuguinao Road Project is a multi-year program of the Department that was funded under Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) since 2014.
