12 flood control projects in Leyte to be finished within 2018

A total of 12 flood mitigation structure projects that will protect residents at flood-prone areas in the municipalities of Albuera, Isabel, Palompon and the city of Ormoc, Leyte are now on its final completion stage.

In his report, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 4th District Engineer Lino Francisco C. Gonzalez said that a total amount of P379-million are being implemented under budget allocation from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2018 for 17 flood control projects, five (5) of which have already been completed.

The remaining 12 flood mitigation projects are being implemented at the following barangays: Burauen, Bacan, Boac, Palanas, and Tagbas in Albuera; San Miguel and Sabang in Palompon; Matlang and Marvel in Isabel; and Ahag, Anilao, Lilo-an, and Owak in Ormoc City. These projects are scheduled on track for completion before 2018 ends.

The five (5) projects completed are situated in Bao and Natubgan in Kananga; Boac, Albuera; and San Antonio and Matica-a in Ormoc City.

“These flood control structures are essential to protect lives and properties against the threat of flash floods which in the past have forced Leyte residents to evacuate from their homes,” said Engr. Gonzalez.
