The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a total of three (3) flood-control projects that will benefit residents of low-lying areas of Pavia and San Miguel towns in the central part of Iloilo.

District Engineer Mario G. Soriano of DPWH Iloilo Fourth District Engineering Office said constructed were the Aganan flood-control structures along Jaro-Aganan River in Barangay Poblacion, and from Barangay 9 to 14 in the municipality of San Miguel and the Tigum Flood Control Project along Jaro-Tigum Bridge in Purok 1, Pavia in the total amount of P93.736 million.

Completed in the amount of P32.58 million, Aganan Flood Control Project in Barangay Poblacion involves the construction of river walls with the length of 273.15 lineal meters, including earthworks, drainage and slope protection. The other project completed along Jaro-Aganan River amounting to P42.54 million covers the area from Barangay 9 to 14.

Works that were completed under the P18.617-million Tigum Flood Control Project include the construction of 233.8-lineal meter river wall, with provisions of earthworks, drainage and slope protection.

“With the completion of these flood control projects, the lives of the people living near these rivers are protected, especially from threatening floods during rainy days,” said Engineer Soriano.

“The structures will also help prevent erosion of soil that may damage the houses and other properties of the people living close to the river,” added Soriano.
