The Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 02 joined other government agencies and media personnel for the Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) Team emergency meeting in preparation for Typhoon ‘Lawin’.

Following the briefing from the representatives of Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on the forecast movement on the position and strength of Typhoon Lawin and the Office of the Civil Defense’s discussion of possible scenarios and advanced strategic planning preparation for the storm, DPWH Cagayan Valley Regional Director Melanio C. Briosos assured that DPWH has already deployed and pre-positioned maintenance personnel as well as equipment in the District Engineering Offices all over the region.

“Regional and District Engineering Office teams were instructed to reactivate its rescue teams and 24/7 skeletal workforce for the rest of the week,” said Briosos.

DPWH teams will operate on a round-the-clock basis and shall coordinate with Office of the Civil Defense, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police (PNP), local government units (LGUs) and other concerned agencies for any necessary assistance that may be provided.

Maintenance crew and equipment will also be deployed at strategic locations of major highways in Cagayan Valley Region.
