The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has installed 19 rain water collection system for schools in Quirino province, an innovative way to maximize use of rainwater for sanitation purposes.

The rain water collection systems were installed at elementary and secondary schools in the municipalities of Aglipay, Cabarroguis, Diffun, Maddela and Nagtipunan.

According DPWH Quirino District Engineering Office (QDEO) District Engineer Marifel T. Andes, P3.4 million was allocated for the construction of these rain water collection systems.

The rain water collection system collects rainwater through pipes connected from the roofing of the school buildings. Accumulated rainwater is distributed to toilets, washroom and other utilities that need water through the pipes or faucets attached to the system.

“There are lots of things that we can do with rainwater. We can use it to clean comfort rooms or for watering the plants. Eventually, this contributes in ensuring cleanliness in the schools, and safeguard the health of both faculty and students,” said Andes.
