The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P50-million slope protection project along section of Calbayog – Catarman Road in Calbayog City, Province of Samar.

According to a report from DPWH – Regional Office 8, the project that will protect the national highway from landslide covers the 7,800 square meters of embankment built along the 293-meter road section in Barangay Jose Roño of Calbayog – Catarman Road.

The slope protection works will prevent soil erosion that could endanger the lives and properties considering that Calbayog – Catarman Road accommodates a huge number of daily motoring public.

The highway embankment is designed to help in retaining the slope’s stability and avoid the abrupt collapse of weakened slopes that could be brought upon by heavy rainfall and natural ground movement.

DPWH also built concrete barriers on top of the slope protection structure to prevent vehicles from falling into deep ravines along sharply curved sections of the road.

The slope protection structure projects provide motorists, both locals and tourists, a safer travel experience as they explore different places in Samar Province as well as other areas of Eastern Visayas Region.
