The Tacloban City By-Pass Road in the province of Leyte will be completely passable next year as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continue the construction of the project’s final phases.
The 8.23-kilometer road project, which has been carried out in five phases since 2015, is designed to decongest traffic along Maharlika Highway traversing the cities of Palo and Tacloban.
Construction works for the four-lane road implemented in the first three phases has been completed last year while the fourth and fifth phases are up for completion in August 2019.
The P1.183-billion high impact project includes the construction of shoulder pavement and slope protection works to mitigate soil erosion in the area.
The Tacloban City By-Pass Road is expected to reduce travel time from 1.5 hours to 30 minutes and benefit more or less 1,000 motorists per day.
The project will improve the accessibility of the road network and increase the development potential of the region.
