Five major infrastructure projects in Leyte are expected to be completed and fully operational by 2019 to provide more opportunities for tourism and growth.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), one of these projects is the Mahaplag-Hilongos Road connecting the municipalities of Mahaplag and Hilongos.
A total of P260 million is allocated for the project that started on February 2018 and is expected to be complete by July 2019.
The road opening project starts in Barangay San Isidro, Mahaplag, Leyte along Daang Maharlika passing through the municipalities of Hindang and Inopacan until it reaches Barangay San Roque in Hilongos, Leyte.
By providing an alternate route for motorists travelling between Maasin City and Tacloban, the 4 hour travel time through the 48.2 kilometer project will be reduced to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The DPWH is also currently doing construction and concreting works for the Heightened Road and Embankment Project, Ormoc City Diversion Road, and the Tacloban City By-Pass Road along with its extension project.
