The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office III has conducted river desilting or dredging at Digmala River in the town of Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.

DPWH Bureau of Equipment (DPWH-BOE) Director Toribio Noel L. Ilao visited the project site a day after the onslaught of Typhoon “Ompong” to check and secure the dredging operations in the river.

“I was told that this project has been 5.5% completed before the arrival of the typhoon and this figure is significant enough since it prevented the inundation of low-lying villages of Vega and Palomaria that are adjacent to the river, and in reducing damages to crops and properties,” Dir. Ilao said.

The dredging activity already increased water depth by 0.7 meters which prevented the recurrence of river at the height of Typhoon “Ompong” that brought flooding in low-lying areas surrounding the town.

DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office lauded the completion of the desiltation of Digmala River as it will protect the villages not just in Bangobon, but also other flood-prone areas near the province.
