The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two (2) road projects that now serve locals and boost income of fishermen and farmers in the island municipality of Almagro, Samar Province.
DPWH Samar First District Engineering Office (SFDEO) chief Alvin A. Ignacio said a total of P100 million was allocated to construct 3.9-kilometer roads for the people of Almagro whose only means of traveling from one barangay to another prior to the project is through motorboats.
Projects completed cover the construction of a 230-millimeter-thick, 3-meter-wide concrete road from Barangay Panjobjoban to Barangay Poblacion stretching 1.92 kilometers and from Barangay Imelda to Barangay Poblacion which is 1.94-kilometers.
“With the completion of these road projects, local fishermen and farmers can now easily exchange produce without the need for motorboats. This makes travel and transport easier, safer and more convenient,” said Engineer Ignacio.
For 2019, DPWH-SFDEO has proposed the construction of a circumferential road project that will connect more barangays to the poblacion of Almagro.
“Known as the center of goat-raising industry in Samar, the town of Almagro needs further infrastructure development to realize its potential specifically in agriculture industry,” said Engineer Ignacio.
