Kennon Road leading to Benguet Province remains closed to vehicular traffic for the overall safety of motorists.
In an advisory, Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR) OIC-Director Tiburcio Canlas said that Kennon Road is closed due to damaged bridge at Camp 1, scoured detour bridge approach at Camp 5, road slip at Camp 6, several sections prone to falling rocks, and on-going bridge works at Camp 7 that may expose travelling public to extreme danger when passing through the scenic zigzag road especially with the experience of torrential monsoon rains as Typhoon “Rosita” makes a close pass in the northern Philippines.
Motoring public going Baguio City and other highland areas of Benguet may use Marcos Highway or Rosario-Pugo-Baguio Road, Naguilian Road or Bauang-Baguio Road, and Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual Road via the Rosario-Pugo Road.
Meanwhile, equipment resources and maintenance personnel of DPWH Regional Offices 1, 2, 3 and CAR have been already preposition for road clearing works and possible disaster response operations in areas threatened by the destructive effects of Typhoon “Rosita” including other parts of Luzon that may experience torrential monsoon rains.
The DPWH will immediately undertake road clearing operations for debris of “Rosita” especially along national highways and major thoroughfares to allow unhampered movement of people.
