An access road leading to Masbate’s seaport has been improved by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to provide the riding public a more convenient trip to its neighbor provinces.

DPWH paved 3.6-kilometers of Junction Morning-Cataingan-Esperanza Port, located in the town of Pio V. Corpuz, Masbate now offers local residents and tourists an easy access to the provinces of Samar, Leyte and Cebu through Esperanza’s roll-on/roll-off (RORO) port.

DPWH allocated P91.5 million for the road enhancement project covering the road widening and thickening and the provision of 1.50-meter shoulder on both sides with drainage structures, metal beam guardrail and pavement markings.

According to DPWH Region 5 Director Reynaldo D. Tagudando, the newly improved road will facilitate easier transportation of agricultural and marine products, thereby improving the economic status of the province and its local residents whose primary sources of income are farming and fishing.

It is also seen to enhance the socio-economic activities and tourism industry of Masbate that is blessed with picturesque beaches with sandbar, falls, natural parks and marine sanctuary.

Road projects that will improve connectivity to tourism sites remain a top priority of DPWH for Region 5.

Other major projects in Region 5 that are set for completion this year are: the improvement of Mayon-Mariawa-Puro Road in Albay leading to the proposed Bicol International Airport in the amount of P116.2 million and the Bacon-Manito Road, Sorsogon costing P168.2 million.
