
Department of Public Works and Highways Region V Director Reynaldo G. Tagudando alerted his men in the field for the series of typhoons expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this last quarter of 2016.
“Bicol Region, particularly Sorsogon and Albay are very vulnerable to calamities with the added presence of active volcanoes in the said provinces necessitating our readiness to respond to any eventualities,” said RD Tagudando in a meeting with the District Engineers.
He instructed them to immediately activate their District Risk Reduction Management Team (DRRMT) as soon as a typhoon signal is raised in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
“Be sure that light/heavy equipment are in good operating condition, with sufficient fuel and with assigned operator,” he added.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, RD Tagudando disclosed a total of 867 crewmen and 186 construction equipment, including chainsaws and generator sets on stand-by for deployment as the need arises.
In related news, Legazpi City Mayor Noel E. Rosal acknowledged in a radio interview, the efforts done by DPWH in the implementation of Legazpi City Urban Drainage Project after he inspected areas frequented by floods.
