2 flood control structures rehabilitated in Samar

In its effort to strengthen infrastructure for flood risk mitigation, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the rehabilitation of two (2) flood control structures along Gandara River in Samar.

DPWH Samar First District Engineer Alvin A. Ignacio reported to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar that P30-million was allocated for each of the two improvements – the 225-linear meter upstream and 225-linear meter downstream flood control structures in Brgy. Ngoso, Gandara, Samar.

The existing flood control structure in both the upstream and downstream part of the river can no longer hold the volume of water during heavy rainfall, bringing about flood and submerging the houses in Brgy. Ngoso that’s why it underwent rehabilitation.

“With a widened catchment, the improved flood control structure can protect lives and properties, especially during the typhoon season,” Engineer Ignacio said.

The two (2) rehabilitation projects are included among the twenty-one (21) flood control (FC) projects of Samar First DEO for the year 2018, with a total appropriation of P520-million sourced out from the General Appropriations Act of 2018.
