Wednesday, June 8, 2016

The District Engineering Offices (DEOs) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region 6 embraced the “Adopt-a-School 2016” program of the Department of Education (DepEd) by stepping up efforts to prepare classrooms, school grounds, and roads for the incoming academic year.

In coordination with DepEd, a total of twelve (12) schools were identified by the DPWH to benefit the said program. Capiz 1st DEO and Iloilo 1st DEO identified two (2) schools to be adopted while the rest of the eight (8) DEOs have one (1) school each.

Secretary Rogelio L. Singson ordered the maintenance workers of the DEOs to participate in the school preparation activities, heeding the request of DepEd.

Likewise, DPWH-6 OIC-Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr. urged the District Engineers to see to it that their respective activities will be completed in time for the opening of classes come June 13.

Maintenance engineers coordinated with DepEd since many schools have asked for assistance to clean school grounds and repaint classrooms.

The activities that were undertaken were painting of perimeter fence, cleaning of school surroundings, repainting of classroom walls, trimming tall grasses, minor classroom repairs and repainting of pedestrian lane.
