President Benigno S. Aquino, III and DPWH Secreatry Rogelio L. Singson led the inaugural drive through of the 2.367-kilometer Mianay-Duyoc-Calaan-Panitan Road in Panitan, Capiz last February 9, 2016.
The Road Upgrading (Gravel to Paved) along Junction National Road Mianay-Duyoc-Calaan-Panitan Road, implemented and supervised by the DPWH, Capiz Second District Engineering Office headed by District Engineer Nonie A. Viyar, has a contract amount of P45.740 Million.
Also included in the contract is the construction of 944 linear meters slide slope protection (grouted riprap) and construction of 275 linear meter ditch line canal (trapezoidal, open type).
Travel time from the town of Dumalag to Roxas City, vice versa, is now reduced by at least 30 minutes with the upgrading of said road section.
“We are happy because it is much easy to travel now. Before we used to pass by the rails using scooter or jeepneys but it took time to get to the town. Now we can travel anytime,’ according to Marites Fuentes, a small-scale businesswoman who frequently travels for her ‘sari-sari’ store.
Also, truck drivers carrying load of sugarcanes, palay, corn and even coconut products enjoy the benefit of a much shorter distance in transporting their products to warehouses and factories compared to passing through Ivisan town or Brgy. Timpas in Panitan.
“Passing along Mianay-Duyoc before would take at least an hour because of the road condition, recently travel time was cut by almost 50%. It has lessened our expenses from repairs and other maintenance cost of our vehicles,” said Teodorico Bendecio, a truck driver who always passes the said road.
The completed project also shortens the travel distance of motorist in going to other neighboring municipalities like Dao and Cuartero. Motorists can make a short cut all the way from Central Iloilo in going to Northern portion of Iloilo province. – dpwhr6/io
