More travelers can now explore Cebu’s best kept secret paradise in the unfrequented town of Pilar in Camotes Islands with the completion of a road improvement project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
A total of 5.4 kilometers of Pilar Circumferential Road has been paved by the DPWH, giving tourists and local residents a better road access to its sugary-white beaches, pristine waters and picturesque views.
DPWH Regional Office 7 Director Ador G. Canlas said the state of the road in Pilar had long hampered the tourism potential of the Island, which is located east of Cebu Island, southwest of Leyte Island, and north of Bohol Island.
To improve the road condition and allow easier access to Pilar’s tourism sites, DPWH allocated P68.5-million for the provision of Portland cement concrete pavement, reinforcing steel, structural concrete, reinforced concrete pipe culvert, stone masonry and standard chevron signs along Pilar Circumferential Road.
“With this newly improved road, we expect growth of tourism industry of this potentially booming beach destination, further, more economic opportunities are seen to open up in this remote town of Cebu,” said Canlas.
