VILLAR: 3 farm-to-market road projects completed in Southern Leyte

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar announced that a total of three (3) farm-to-market roads (FMRs) amounting to P15-million were successfully completed in Maasin City and Malitbog City, Southern Leyte.

Secretary Villar said completed FMR projects include the concreting of roads in Barangay Tawid and Barangay Tomoy-tomoy in Maasin City; and in Barangay San Vicente – Barangay Pancil – Barangay Aurora in Malitbog City.

The once bumpy and dusty roads were converted into two-lane roads with a total length of three (3) kilometers.

Newly-concreted roads now hasten the transport of goods and agricultural products in the province.

Meanwhile, on-going FMR projects in Southern Leyte include the improvement of roads in San Jose to Gawisan; Nati to Bato I; Matin-ao to Cansirung; Pinaskuhan to Hinapo Gamay; Nonok Norte to San Agustin and Bactul I to Bactul II of Maasin City; and the construction of roads in Poblacion to Coot in Padre Burgos Town.

Secretary Villar said DPWH-Southern Leyte District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia assured to fast-track the construction of above ongoing road projects in Southern Leyte which are target for completion within the first three (3) months of the year.

“FMRs has been tagged as priority projects by the government in the agricultural province of Southern Leyte to reduce farm product prices and to make food more available to its people,” added Villar.
