Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar announced the completion of a school building project with five (5) classrooms in Barangay Buga, Leon, Iloilo.

“The construction of the school building amounting P6.93-million is for the purpose of augmenting the growing number of elementary students in Buga Central Elementary School,” said Villar.

Citing a report by OIC-District Engineer Mario G. Soriano of DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office, Villar said that the project which involves the construction of a single-storey, standard-size school building, was implemented by DPWH in convergence with the Department of Education (DepEd).

Each of the five (5) classrooms has a capacity to accommodate 40 students, thus providing a conducive learning environment for approximately 200 students in total.

“Buga Central Elementary School is one of the top-performing schools in the District of Leon II and that is why this project is significant and will surely contribute to the learning development of the youth in Brgy. Buga and other neighboring barangays,” Villar added.

Moreover, two (2) old single-storey buildings with six (6) classrooms were replaced to provide a safer venue for learning. Old buildings were replaced due to termite infestation and damages caused by natural calamities such as typhoons and earthquakes.
