The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has adopted a new technology in the construction of slope protection structure along Guimbal-Igbaras-Tubungan-Leon Road, Barangay Iswan, Tubungan, Iloilo.

Citing a report by DPWH Iloilo 1st District Engineer Nonie A. Viyar, Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the Swiss-developed TECCO slope stabilization system is now being utilized at the P67.66-million project which involves the construction of an 800-square meter slope protection that will secure the 78-meter road section identified prone to landslide especially in the occurrence of heavy rains.

For the first time, TECCO system wherein high-tensile steel wire safety nets and mesh are anchored with rock nails and spike plates nailed up to 6 meters deep for stabilizing any kind of slope, will be used in projects implemented by DPWH Iloilo 1st DEO, added Secretary Villar.

The installed TECCO system will stabilize any type of terrain, help prevent erosion, and are also time-efficient with its knotted ends and lightweight feature that makes it easier to apply even on irregular slopes. The nearly invisible mesh also facilitates sustainable vegetation.

“Upon completion of this project, motorists can expect a safer land travel without the fear of landslides or falling down ravines,” Secretary Villar said.
