
Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar commended DPWH Regional Office 9 for successfully completing seven (7) flood mitigation projects in flood-prone municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur.
Secretary Villar said that DPWH Regional Office 9, under the leadership of Regional Director Cayamombao Dia, has constructed in 2018 P137-million flood mitigation projects intended to protect residents of the seven (7) flood-prone areas in Zamboanga del Sur, namely: Dumingag, Labangan, Mahayag, Midsalip, Molave, Ramon Magsaysay, and Tambulig.
Included in the list of completed projects are the 503-lineal meter flood control mitigation structure on steel sheet foundation of Salug Daku Flood Control in Mahayag, costing P37.2-million; the 284-linear meter flood control structure along Dipolo River in Barangay Katipunan, Ramon Magsaysay, costing P18.62-million; and the 110-linear meter structure of Lantian Flood Control in Labangan, costing P9.3-million.
In the municipality of Dumingag, a flood control structure was also constructed at the 204-lineal meter lower landing bridge (downstream) along Mahayag-Dumingag Road in Dumingag, worth P23.64-million; as well as the 96-linear meter Dipolo Flood Control in Barangay Kapalaran, Tambulig, worth P18.72-million.
Secretary Villar also commended the completion of the 168-linear meter Guinabot Flood Control in the municipality of Midsalip, with a total cost of P18.68-million; and the 81.2-linear meter Dipolo Gamay Flood Control at Dipolo Gamay Bridge in Molave, with a total cost of P9.3-million.
DPWH Regional Office 9 is eyeing to complete 14 on-going flood mitigation projects in the province this year.
“With the construction of these projects, the people can now be safe from flooding and ensure continuous crop production that will spur economic growth in the province,” added Secretary Villar.
