Lives and properties of people living in Barangay Macabito, Calasiao, Pangasinan are now safe from the dangers caused by flooding with the completion of a flood control project.
Citing a report from Pangasinan 4th District Engineer Simplicio D. Gonzales, Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the flood control project was implemented with a total budget cost of P24.57 million which involves the construction of a 550-lineal meter gabion revetment wall and rubble concrete along the Ingalera River.
“In the past, the municipality of Calasiao is usually submerged in flood water during heavy rains due to river overflow,” Secretary Villar said.
DPWH-installed gabions will help in preventing erosion along the riverbank as well as reducing the abrupt rising of water in the area.
“Aside from protecting the residents in 24 barangays of Calasiao, this gabion revetment wall would prevent destruction of farmlands,” Secretary Villar added.
In recent years, the municipality of Calasiao is among those areas which were placed under state of calamity not only during onslaught of typhoons but also due to heavy downpour caused by monsoon rains or Habagat, which resulted to millions worth of damages.
