DPWH Ilocos Sur set to roll-out Operation Baklas

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos Sur First District Engineering Office (DEO) conducted a simultaneous removal of illegally posted campaign materials with its “Operation Baklas” in line with 2019 National and Local Election.

District Engineer Reynaldo S. Organo impose that personnel of DPWH Ilocos Sur 1st DEO will takedown and removed campaign posters of national candidates that were placed on prohibited areas and structures such as schools, trees, electrical and light posts, waiting sheds, public transport terminals, barangay halls and overpasses.

Operation Baklas of the DPWH Ilocos Sur 1st DEO is mandated by law in reference to the memorandum from the Police Regional Office I and Regional Operations and Plans Division, in cooperation with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

Under COMELEC Resolution 10488, campaign posters should not be bigger than two feet by three feet (2x3) or three feet by two feet (3x2) and should be displayed in designated common poster area.

In addition, tarpaulin posters of political parties and party-list groups should only measure 12 feet by 16 feet (12x16) or its equivalent not exceeding 192 square feet.
